Improving Skills on writing research papers 1/30/2011

Over the past few years my writing skills have greatly improved.  I have put a lot more time into organizing my thoughts and ideas before the paper is written.  I do need to work on my revision skills.  Usually when I finish my paper, i am just so glad to be done I do not want to even think about it.  If I can focus on finishing before the due date, I can revise it a few days later when I have a clear mind and a fresh set of eyes.  I am also not a great researcher.  I need to find a more efficient way of finding sources.  I am confused on how people use books as a source without reading it entirely.  Besides using Google and looking around for journal articles that have been published recently, I do not know what other sources to use.  Another flaw I have is that I get caught up with minor details in the paper.  Sometimes an idea gets stuck in my head, I end up writing a good portion of my information on an insignificant detail.  It ends up adding unnecessary length to my essays and confuses the reader.
I am sure I have more flaws but these are my major flaws that need to be corrected.
